This was a largely unused back garden of a house sitting at the edge of a pretty village overlooking the fields of east lothian. The owners wanted a contemporary garden with a courtyard feel and architectural planting. They needed to keep some lawn for their newly born baby, but wanted a majority of the garden to be given over to modern pale coloured materials. There are two main features of this design - the first is a raised rendered wall planter along the whole length of the bottom of the garden. It was planted predominantly with acers, phormium, bamboos and grasses. |

A raised stone seating area was built outside the french doors which allowed the owners to sit with a view out to the fields. There are also 2 pale wood decking areas creating a place to catch the sun at all times during the day. Lastly a 1.2 metre rendered wall was built behind one of the decking areas which acts as a beautiful backdrop for the architectural planting as the sun sets and casts shadows on it. |
